Silicone paste is one of those products that has a very specific set of applications it does exceptionally well. O-rings and rubber seals last significantly longer when kept conditioned with silicone paste rather than drying out. Battery terminals coated in silicone paste resist the corrosion that causes contact problems. Tap washers and valve seats lubricated with silicone paste seal better and turn more easily. Electrical plug sockets treated with it shed moisture and resist corrosion.
The key properties of Herschell’s silicone paste are its water repellency (it doesn’t absorb moisture and it protects the surfaces it’s applied to), its electrical insulation (safe to use on electrical contacts and connections), and its stability (it doesn’t melt, oxidise or age in the way petroleum-based greases do over time).
